Concern about Water Works
Message:

I am writing to express my concern about the possibility that the City of Cincinnati may sell the Water Workers to a not-yet-created Water District.

Today, we have a great water system. According to reports it is one of the best in the country. We have good prices, great water quality, excellent service, and fair policies. I am worried that if the system is sold these things could change. If the system is sold to a new government agency, the Water District, what is to keep prices from rising?

If the Water Works is sold to a new and untested Water District made up of regional governments, we will lose our control of over our water. This could even be a first step on the road to selling the public water to private parties who would put profits ahead of the public.

If the Water Works is sold to a Water District, we would then have to pay for the purchase of the system either through new taxes or higher water rates. We would, in effect, have to buy the water system we already own.

I want safe, healthy drinking water for my children and for their children. And I can’t afford to pay more for water. I don’t want my water system turned over to somebody else. I feel secure as a city resident knowing that I vote for the City Council and the Mayor who are responsible for running it.

We are concerned about this issue. Don't let us down.
